The academy members on Gudrun prepare to head out to Rawhani to investigate a site important to them

Rey looks around, “So who’s ride are we taking or are we going to public transport to stay more inconspicuous?”

Eisheru strolls up to the group looking semi relieved. But it is hard to tell if he is just content or otherwise. "The Charybdis is ready for us and is spacious. I would prefer not to be waiting for a ship to leave should we need to do so in a hurry." (edited)

Venser is surprised to see notable expression on Eisheru's face. "The Wildstar's always avaliable but I'm happy to leave her here for this one."

"Just so you both know, I was planning to make a stop on Sumati afterwards. You are again more than welcome to join, but if you do not wish to extend your trip it might be prudent to bring the Wildstar along." (edited)

Venser looks to Rey.

“My ship is at Sumati, great place. Lots of cool things and I heard they might have a call out for spelunking teams to check out some ruins. But that’s all I have from my team on planet.”

“But it is your call Venser, we can catch a public if needed to get back here or bring your ship, if no one is needing it here. My crew just had 9 months of travel and going from place to place refueling so they needed some R&R.” (edited)

Rey nods, “off we go.”

"I hope you don't mind but I'd like to bring a new academy member along. Her name's 'Blossom' and was up until recently a prisoner in one of the corporate psychic detention centres on Rawhani."

"Very good she is docked at Central Starport. And of course Blossom may come. If it helps her to know, we are going to visit with the Knights of Draconis. The forge is their house relic and I believe they lead the revolution against the Corporations." Eisheru requests a black gravcar service to take them to the Starport and sends a telepathic message to Evan that they are returning to the ship within the hour and we will be heading to Rawhani

Rawhani is approaching something like peace when the ship arrives. A UNW cruiser and it’s pair of patrol boat escorts is in orbit , one of them breaking off to impose itself between the ship and a clear run at the planet below, broadcasting need to identify tags

Eisheru nods to Evan Wriker, the Charybdis pilot, to open a communications line to the intercepting ship. "Greeting, UNW Patrol. This is the Charybdis on business for the Psychic Academy. We are here to meet with House Draconis."

The boat is unable to make contact with the house proper on the ground but their compound is known and the ship is given clearance to pass

Eisheru thanks the UNW Patrol and instructs Evan to make for the House Draconis compound. Once within communications range of the compound he sends a message to Draconis. "Greetings House Draconis, this is Eisheru from the Psychic Academy on Gudrun, requesting permission to land."

"Take us down, Mr. Wriker."

The Draconis complex is a large chapel to their water and traveling goddess Aguana, along with several mech hangars, a boarding house for pilgrims, a growing administration complex, and finally, a small archive cloister where the loremasters of House Draconis try to sift through their past, and protect information that may be vital to the future. You don't need to be a metapsion to feel the charge in the air, this close to the forge

Eisheru takes a moment to bask in the familiar thrum of energy. His own awakening being the direct result of the energies in the forge. Eisheru leads the trio of psychics in to the complex and greets the representative from Draconis, "Greetings, my name is Eisheru from the Psychic Academy on Gudrun. I bring some colleagues in hopes that we might be able to utilize and study the Psionic Forge." (edited)

Rey follows Eisheru’s lead, making a mental map of the location and postulating on the potential defenses and exits of the complex.

Venser sees Rey looking around intensly and nudges him. "Why so tense?" He says with concern. (edited)

Rey shrugs, “Old habits, never know when this place might be attacked and we have to make an escape.”

"Good point, but remember it's ok to relax every now and then. We're walking into a forge not a fleshshaper colony..." Despite this Venser takes Rey's alertness to heart and activates his spatial awareness technique. His eyes glow a low blue as he does so.

There are no overt defenses here, aside from some Draconis men at arms, who are really just equipped as conventional soldiers

Eisheru approaches one of the Men-at-Arms "Hello sir, we are from the Psychic Academy on Gudrun. We were wondering who we should speak to about using the Psionic Forge?"

"Ah, Loremaster Wescott is off-world, but there are recordings of him in the forge templus, below the chapel. Your arrival is being prepared for inside, the orbital picket advised us you were coming down as a precaution"

"Thank you, Soldier." Eisheru gives a polite bow of the head before gesturing for the others to follow him down into heart of the building towards the forge. His meta senses guiding the way through the corridors

Venser follows Eisheru with interest.

Rey turns to Eisheru, “It’s nice to be known somewhere isn’t it.” Rey grins and nudges Eisheru.

"It does have its benefits, although I much prefer obscurity to fame. As I get the feeling that you do as well, Rey." Eisheru gives the Astrian psychic a quick wink before they finally come upon the room that houses the magnificent Psionic Forge. Conductive Jaxtonite lines go from the furnace to specially carved channels on the floor. The channels form a circle around an anvil, three channels in total, for three working anvils total. "It is here some would say that I was reborn. I much prefer the term awakening but to each their own." He says with a slight shrug of the shoulders

"Huh..." Venser says as he takes in room. "So it's a literal forge..."

“I thought... well forge it is. Any idea how to forge something? Is there a manual or oral tradition that you know of? Or are we flying by the guidance of a precog?”

"The soldier said something about recordings." Eisheru looks for a bank of computers or one of the attendants. Finding the computer first he looks for the instructional vids that he was informed about and begins to queue them up

"Step one: Make sure to tie your hair back telekinetically before you begin forging." Venser says immitating the voice of an instructor.

There are a large number of imbued crystals behind a glass display, organized by discipline, technique, and what official academy 'level' each technique has. With what is currently known about the forge, a mundane object can have one of these core 0 or level 1 techniques imbued into it, essentially fusing psionic art with technology

(for example, someone made metapsionic core 1 goggles, doesnt cost effort to see, if you're wearin g them, even if youre not a metapsion, you can see magic/psionics at work)

(and the forge is capable of awakening a partial into a full since its been about two years since the last one)

(how does that work OOC? do they lost their abilities from their other partial class?)

(So Eisheru was a Expert/Psychic. He got awakened into a full psychic and lost all the benefits of being a partial expert, but gained the benefit of being a full psychic.) (edited)

(I had the idea of putting TK armory into a sword to have a ranged/melee weapon where I could slice the air and a wave of force would shoot out. Idk just sounded cool. But I left my nice katana on the Wildstar, fuck.)

As they watch the very dry instructional videos, time seems to lose meaning and after several hours of the videos Eisheru feels confident enough to give it a try. Eisheru pulls out the Serpent teeth and scales and places them onto the forge. The memory of the legendary serpent to live on through the implements that would protect Eisheru. He manifests a razor sharp dagger to begin cutting the scales and bones. He manipulates the pieces into position and secures the scales and bone and teeth together into what is quickly becoming a wicked looking spear. Some more time passes and the implement itself is completed all that waits is for it to be infused with the psionic energy from its creator. Eisheru stands over the forge and his completed mundane weapon and begins gathering the necessary power to imbue it with the same telekinetic energy that aids him in battle. Eisheru takes the rest of the scales and some durasteel wire. He begins weaving the scales into a piece of shoulder armor using the steel wire to make ringmail for the scales to attach to. After a couple more hours the piece is also ready to be imbued with Psychic energy Eisheru begins chanting softly to focus his effort on the items waiting on the anvil. He places one hand on the armor and another on the spear. The items begin to glow and vibrate with the power being infused into the material. Minutes go by and the sweat begins to drip off of the Merlon's forehead. Eisheru brings forward his intention that these items should provide protection and help him defeat those that would threaten him and his loved ones. The room gets noticeably hotter as the objects are now floating slightly above the anvil. With a sonic boom the items clatter to the ground. Eisheru falls to one knee panting. (edited)

Rey takes off his jacket. He looks at it remembering all the times he wore it into battle. All the times it kept him from freezing, or being caught or so many other things. He realizes that all his powers should go into something so key to every part of his life. Rey focuses his nullifier powers and using the conversations he had with Mordecia the Brown begins to fold into the jacket a Void pocket. His mind races to the talk of metadimensional pockets and levels. He begins to align his thoughts with the void, the place of nothing between the dimensional levels and imbue that power into his jacket. Slowly the black jacket becomes darkness incarnate almost as dark as the void.

Venser takes his revolver out of it's holster and examines it closely, feels the weight of it, flicks the chambers open and closed. Long before he acknowledged anything of his power, he had this. The only thing he could really rely on to see him through the frontier. He takes a crystal marked 'Terminal Reflection' and steps up to the third anvil. Over a period of several hours he infuses it's energy into the weapon, a type of energy he is as of yet unfamiliar with, but applies the same basic methodology of all disciplines to it. He thinks about Abigail and the power she wields, how he might make this weapon into something that would mean he may never have to draw it again. Just as Rey's item became his void, so too does the weapon become a reflection of his own MES. The gun begins to glow as the golden light of the supernova that Eisheru could see in him travels down his arm and into the weapon. A searing, crackling sound of energy can be heard in the final moments of the process before a flash of light. Venser, exhausted, barely catches himself on the anvil as the hand cannon lies upon it, white hot and cooling rapidly.

(so as long as its readied, it will ensure that you get some warning about dangers you can't easily anticipate. Just a fine point that we corrected after sil was doing it wrong, its only things you have no warning or are a complete surprise. If you're in a standoff with someone, and danger is present, it wont flicker and warn you before they draw their guns, since violence is an expectation)

(but if its a random trap, or something you havent accounted for at all, you'll get warning)

Once they have all taken some time to recover, Eisheru looks for one of the Forge attendants "Would it be possible to make copies of the instructional videos as well as any technical information on the Forge that House Draconis has? The Academy is eager to learn more about the capabilities of the Forge and how to improve the forge to allow for more complex techniques to be imbued into items" (edited)

Rey puts his jack back on checking to make sure his hand didn’t disappear during the process. Rey turns his hand over and back then sighs out. “Whew” Then Rey pops his leather jacket forward. “Okay, I feel exhausted.” Then realizes that people are taking. Then just walks over to listen.

Venser is listening from a distance with his back half turned, giving his hand cannon one last examination. Still breathing heavily.

"The Forge is a Draconis Relic that the academy is free to use, but we will not be sharing the technical specifications. Headmaster Fate does have a general working knowledge of it, though to the best of his and Lorekeeper Wescott's knowledge, without further study or the application of research, no further techniques can be imbued beyond where things are now

"If the Polity Council would stop researching new ways to kill eachother we might be able to figure it out..." Venser mutters, not really trying to be quiet or hide what he said.

"Not my decision to make," the attendant says shrugging "my orders are from House Draconis and the polity government we've all sworn to uphold. I am sorry I could not be more helpful"

Venser turns. "Oh God no, my apologies, that was not what I meant. You're doing fine work here, I respect the position you are in. Thank you for everything." (edited)

"It's all understandable and no need for apologies. Perhaps we can reach out to Loremaster Wescott to see how we might be able to aid that research into the forge's capabilities. We thank you greatly for your hospitality and for allowing us to use your House's relic."

"Travel with Auguana's blessing" he says "Draconis grounds are open to each of you whenever you need them"

Rey bows, “You have my com ID if you ever need some discretionary help let me know.”

Eisheru also bows and collects his newly enhanced belongings. He begins walking his way out towards the surface and the Charybdis. Once everyone is back on board he calls a quick meeting. "Is there anything else you would like to do on Rawhani or are we on to Sumati?"

Rey looks at his jacket and grins, “I’m just here for the gear and adventure. Nothing left for me here on this planet.”

Venser spins his new golden gun into it's holster. "I'm with Rey."

"What about you Blossom?"

"I will go wherever you do. The temple was nice, but I do not want to spend anymore time there right now"

The second planet is a storm cloud as the debris forms into its new stellar body. The surface has a thin atmosphere developing and it seems to be very mineral rich

The Sumati 1 defense platforms begin swiveling over your track the incoming vessel, and a pair of fighters launch to investigate

(You good ) Eisheru flicks on the comms from his captain's chair "Greetings Sumati Picket. My Name is Eisheru Tidecaller representing the Psychic Academy and Aiya Technologies. We request permission to dock."

Docking permission is given , and a ring of lights begins flickering as the ship pulls in, showing where a docking ring has been set aside

"Thank you, Sumati 1." Eisheru turns to Rey after turning off the comms. "Rey you said you met Governor Shriven? Think you could set up a meeting? We never got to properly thank the Governor for aiding Acastus some 6 months ago." Eisheru instructs Evan to take the ship in to the indicated docking ring. (edited)

“I can try but all I have is the front desk contact. He said to mention Garrion when I called to whoever answered and I would be able to get a meeting.”

"Can't hurt to give it a shot. I'm going to quickly shower. I'll be ready to disembark in about 20 minutes." While Rey makes the call and Evan brings the ship in to dock at Sumati 1, Eisheru heads back to the captain's quarters and takes a quick shower. He puts on a two-tone crimson and navy blue suit, across one shoulder is the yellow serpent scale pauldron and the hand crafted spear shrinks down to be the size of a short sword which he affixes to his left hip. He returns about 30 minutes later to the bridge

Rey sends the message to Ad Astra A response comes near instantly,

"So... What is there to do on Sumati? I've never had the pleasure of coming here before?"

“Well you can teleport all around with only the need of a compad. Also they have good food and there is apparently a deserted island that had some kind of ruins. They also have a thriving holo vid community.”

("Deserted" Island that is off-limits... lol)

The trip through Sumati is quick, most of the planets recent history recovering from an all country world war. The wreckage of an airborne carrier on displays, shot down by the governor himself is a focal point of the trip before coming to the governmental palace itself

Eisheru walks next to Rey and Venser as the approach the governmental palace. "That swordfish place smelled delicious. Shall have to try that before we leave. Ah! It seems like we are here. Anything we should know Rey before going in to meet Governor Shriven?"

"I've spoken to him a few times in our unity council meetings. Seems like a good man. Intelligent, well spoken, honest to a fault. He originally sung Rey's praises when we were discussing who should undertake our diplomatic mission to Aliah. For that alone I like him."

“I only spoke to him for a few minutes, mostly I watched him hug the man that I tracked down via the bounty for him. He seems down to earth despite all this. Though Mordecia told me to never lie to him or if I did to make sure it couldn’t be discovered, oh and that he is a football fanatic, follows the Gudrun soccer league religiously.”

"So... good judge of character, down to earth, loves football and don't lie to him. Sounds like an upstanding gentleman. Venser care to take the lead as you both are Unity council members? Doesn't feel right for me to be out in front on this."

"I can make introductions certainly, I don't have any particular matters to discuss with him though."

"An introduction is all that is required on my end. I don't think I have ever been accused of speaking too little" A small smile graces the corner of his lips as they walk up to the building (edited)

As the group enters the building a hologram appears next to them, a small woman stands there in what can only be described as a ball gown. “Welcome, Tidecaller Primus Eisheru, Talent scout Venser and Bountyhunter Reynaldo. It is a pleasure to host you this evening. Sorry for the formalities but we are hosting a state dinner tonight which you are all invited to but of course have no obligation to do so. Sumati has so many things to do that we don’t want to hold you back. Oh how careless of me, I forgot to introduce myself I am Sarah, though I don’t know if that designation is still completely accurate.” (edited)

"Uhhh- point of order. I feel my title is significantly less badass..." He says jokingly.

Sarah smiles and looks at Venser, “A person who can look to the potential of people is far more valuable than any thing under the stars. You accomplishments will soon eclipse any title that I could find on the Net if I have any skill in scouting.”

He smiles. "Thank you. So what do we think guys?"

"That is some high praise. Greetings Sarah, a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Eisheru says in his placid tone of voice. "I am always up for a good meal. I have heard nothing but good things on the cuisine of Sumati. And formal dinners are nothing new to me so that is perfectly suitable if you both are up for it."

Venser looks Eisheru up and down in his new gear. And then does the same to himself in his jumpsuit and leather jacket. "Worried I might not be quite dressed for the occasion."

Eisheru looks over to Venser and then nods in agreement "Sarah, perhaps you know of a tailor nearby? If this is to be a formal state dinner, we should dress the part"

Sarah’s smile has never left her face, “Ad Astra tailors will be at your room after the brief meeting with Shriven prior to him getting ready as well for the dinner. Please follow me to the,” Sarah pauses for a second, “conference room.”

"Thank you! Lead the way."

Eisheru nods again and follows "Sarah I am new to Sumati, as I am sure you knew, are there any customs that we should be aware of? Any formalities to observe?"

Sarah continues to smile this time in a motherly way, “Never teleport into a house or room that you do not own. To interface with the teleport system you can either get integrated compad cyberware installed or use your compad. The cyberware is heavily discounted for this year for all UNW citizens as we build a better tomorrow today. Others can request permission to teleport you and you can grant access knowing the teleport system will not place in you a position that cannot sustain life for a minimum of 3 minutes which is more than sufficient time to use the same system to remove yourself from there baring metaphysical interference.” Both of you receive request to teleport you to an Ad Astra location on planet.

Venser appears very hesitant to accept.

Eisheru nods in agreement (edited)

“Venser, your heart rate is elevated, what seems to be the issue? Do you wish to see the technical specifications? Would that set you at ease?”

He rubs the back of his neck. "Can I see where I'm being teleported? I'm not a fan of being ripped from where I stand to go somewhere I don't know."

“Hmmm why has no one ever brought that up. One second.” Sarah seems to freeze for a second, “There you go all requests will now have the GPS location unless otherwise requested to be blocked as well as a interactive view of the location.” On your screen there is a picture of a hallway that appears to be under this building.

“If that meets your request please review and press accept.”

Eisheru looks down at his compad and notes the hallway. He looks to Sarah then down again before pressing accept. Hard to read an AI or VI... will have to look into that technique...

"Thank you Sarah. Although I'm also surprised no one has asked that before?" And presses accept.

You appear in the hallway outside a room that has a sign on it covered in what appears to be graffiti the sign reads, Simulator Conference room. “Most people on Sumati grew up in what would roughly translate into 1920s if we were to use the earth standard time line. They were bearly TL4 when the fighting stopped, they haven’t yet become accustomed to the realities that are available to them today.” Sarah continued the conversation as nothing was out of the ordinary. “Shriven is just inside the,” she pauses obviously frustrated, “Conference room.”

"Is there something the matter, Sarah? I have never seen an Intelligence like yours... get frustrated before." Eisheru stands with his hands clasped behind his back

Venser puts his hand up "I have but it was my bad."

Sarah sighs, “I have to send a bot to clean this sign almost twice a day, each time I ask him if we want to just rename it and he says ‘no, and this way you don’t have to lie Sarah when you say I’m in a conference.’ Some days I don’t know how Ana puts up with that man.” (edited)

Eisheru smiles slightly at the complaining about Governor Shriven. "Heh. I see. Well as I am sure you have noticed, we organics have our own... quirks... Humans more so, in my opinion. But that may be biased as I find their some of their ways to be quite strange. Thank you Sarah for the teleport and for welcoming us." Eisheru walks to the door and knocks twice and waits for a reply from within

Sarah bows and disappears. From inside you hear shriven’s voice. “Come in, just give me a second to fin...ish, two bogies on my 6, red 4, respond, red 4?!” You here the sound of simulated explosions from in the room. “Never mind, come on in.”

Eisheru raises and eyebrow and then shrugs. He starts to raise his hand to use his telekinetic powers to open the door but then is immediately hit by a wave of exhaustion. He spends a moment panting before remembering he is still completely tapped from the Forge. Eisheru shakes his head and then reaches for the door with his hand and opens it. "I hope we are not interrupting anything too important, Governor Shriven." (edited)

Venser nods to Eisheru in sympathy.

As you entered the room you are met with 4 simulator pods, 3 of which are empty and one is in the process of opening, Shriven says, “Oh no, no nothing important, just trying to figure out how to deal with a 20 on 4 situation. I have found that keeping a hobby is a good thing especially when you have good people around you.” Shriven’s pod finishes opening and he hops out, “pardon my manors, Welcome and thank you for coming, Tidecaller Primus eisheru it is pleasure to meet you outside of council.” Shriven bows, “Venser, It is also good to be able to talk outside of council. And Rey, Mord says hi and you still owe him those credits from poker.”

Venser bows in turn. "Good to meet you in the flesh Shriven. How are you dealing with a 20 on 4 situation?"

“Well this time poorly, but in general some fancy flying by me and telling my wingmen where to lay an ambush. Piloting is what got me into this mess and it is probably the thing that’s gonna get me killed one day. Anyways, did you just come to chat or was there a purpose in this meeting other than to talk dog fight tactics?” Shriven grins at the idea of talking for hours with another pilot.

Venser reciprocates the grin.

“We can hash over the dog fights we have been in at the dinner, remind me to tell you how I used 3 missiles to kill a flying carrier.” Shriven grins. “Tidecaller Primus eisheru, can I call you Eisheru? in exchange you should drop the Governor thing, did you come as a psychic, CEO, diplomat or Tidecaller?”

Eisheru bows his head in respect before rising to look at Shriven. "Eisheru is just fine, I was never one for personal titles. And if it is alright with you, Shriven, a little bit of all of them. First though as a diplomat. Acastus thanks you for sending your ships to help defend against the Shaper incursion. I regret that we have not formally thanked you and Ad Astra sooner, but better late than never. Without the help of Agata and your ships, I do not know if I would be standing here today. Once again, thank you." he bows his head again deeply. a show of respect he hasn't given many others (edited)

“It was my pleasure though I will admit old Kingcaid sure gave me an earful for that stunt. I couldn’t leave all the work that was done on Acastus go to waste, while Ad Astra doesn’t make it out that far we definitely have seen enough good men and women head that way. So that covers the diplomat, how about the CEO.” Shriven grins and a glint appears in his eye sensing a deal.

Eisheru returns the grin with his own slight smile "This is likely a two parter. One is that I would love to learn about your mass transit network that you have established in the UNW as I would like to recreate something like that in the Confederation. The second is that we are looking to expand our trade partners and was wondering if Aiya Technologies could somehow be of assistance to either Ad Astra, Sumati or both."

"Oh and a third. I recently became Mayor of a developing city on Acastus. We are looking for experienced artisans in both the trades and the arts to help foster those skills in the people of my growing city. If you would be open to perhaps a cultural exchange I think it would be a good way to continue to improve upon UNW and Greystar relations."

“Well, as far as the mass transit, I just paid for the shuttles to be built with the help of Billy to not require fuel and then paid for the next 30 years of their maintenance and pilots wages. Eisheru runs some calculations in his head then nods "Ok that makes sense. And as far as the laborers, The city is small so I would not be asking for hundreds or thousands of experts. And for the people of Marmora this is more of a way so they have personal distractions and hobbies and less about ensuring they can put together void-craft. We have many botanists and other horticultural specialists as well as a strong pisciculture industry. If those are of interest to you, I can make some arrangements and take volunteers from Acastus and have them transported to Sumati for a time."

“That can be arranged. I will try to find 100 volunteers. With those settled I will bring up my request.” Shriven stands up more formally, “It has recently come to my attention that there is another floor below the current academy holding on the deserted planet, as you three are all academy members I request that you go explore and clear any danger present on the floor. I will warn you now, 3 operative fell in clearing the first floor until Headmaster Regulus came in and cleared the fortress with overwhelming force. Should you choose to accept and clear any danger of this substructure you can ask one boon of me and if it is within my power and within reason I will grant it.”

"Just for your information. We are a little tapped out psychically right now, it's going to take us some time to recover..."

“There is no rush, I have been sitting on this information for a month already.”

"I see. Is there any more information about the dangers that lurk? As Venser said, we would need a couple of days of rest but I do not see why we shouldn't go. Especially if the Academy holdings are potentially in danger."

"Oh yes absolutely."

“I have no more information than what my sensor sweep found, there is an additional floor under the former castle. I’m sorry I don’t have more information.”

“Very well, think of the favor you would ask but please keep it within reason, I am wealthy but not stupid. Nothing sets me off more than people being ridiculous with their requests. I had one man ask for me to give him my wife’s ship. I talked him down to the value of it but Ana was sooooo angry.” Shriven chuckles at the memory. “Anyways, we should probably get ready for the dinner. Sarah can you take us all to our rooms?” Your compads have location info for rooms in the top of a local residence tower.

"Got it. So ask for your ship and not hers..." Eisheru gives a dead pan wink. Clearly trying to joke but his calm demeanor makes it hard to deliver "Thank you for hosting us Shriven. We look forward to the dinner." Eisheru looks down to his compad and hits accept once he sees that he will be teleported to a room. (edited)

Eisheru stands from the luxurious recliner that is in his room. The suite that was set aside for him by Shriven was well furnished and had every amenity one could think of. He leaves the spear in his room but continues to wear his serpent scale pauldron. It was as much a decorative piece as one for function. He reaches over and grabs his compad and views the elegant dining room. He presses the accept button and feels the telltale sign of being pulled from one location to another. An instant later he materializes in the space and looks around for his friends

Venser adjusts his suit anxiously, having literally never done anything like this before. He misses his jacket, his boots, his gun at his side. "It's just a fancier council meeting. It's just a fancier council meeting." He repeats in his own head. "And hey you're on a space station, that's like your favoured terrain." He brings the back of his wrist up to his face and sniffs. "And for once you do actually smell nice." He takes a deep breath before pulling out his compad and examining the scene. Finally he works up the courage to accept and similarly materialises. In the room are all sorts of delegates and delectable food. Squid Tartar, Creme Faiche, Etherfruit Praline, Bladefish Cepes. You also notice that there seems to be 2 main groups in the room, a group of middle aged men and their entourage. While on the other side is young professionals who all appear very driven in their different disciplines. Pilots, Military Officers, business men and alas Lawyers. There are several tables set out each with a name card assigned for each seat.

Just then there is an audible pop as Billy stumbles forward out of a minute pocket in spacetime, spilling his glass of champagne n the floor. “Jeesus H spacechrist. That thing really rips you.” Admiral Beckwater-Rigers nudges him giggling.

"Lord Admiral Rigers, Admiral Beckwater-Rigers! Quite the surprise to see you both here. " he says before giving a respectful bow and tilt of the head. "Had I known you were coming I would have brought some of the coffee that bears your namesake. How are you both doing?" (edited)

“The Tidecaller himself.” Madeline easily matches Eisheru’s demeanor. “Call me Madeline. Please. And thank you so much for the earrings. They remind me of my old home.” Beckwater is dressed in an elegant and stately dress that conveys power and competence but also highlights her beauty and wears beautiful coral earrings to highlight the outfit. Billy smiles and reaches out a hand to shake holding the other away as it still drips champagne a little getting on his classic white suit. “Nice to see you again! I’m doing well. I’m alive and here! Wow this is some affair. I... didn’t really know what I was walking into. I just came to see my old friend Shriven but what a surprise.”

Shriven walks up to the four standings around. “I’m glad everyone came to visit all at the same time. Billy, I know you want to talk but that should probably wait until after the dinner. Eat drink, be merry. Once you take your seats we will begin the dinner. Admiral Governor Billy is the guest of honor today. Sorry to surprise you like that but I knew you wouldn’t show up for your own party if you knew.” Shriven grins a billy.

"You're most welcome, Madeline. From my watery home to yours. May you always wear them in good health." Eisheru gives a courteous bow of the head to Shriven as he appears. "Even more fortuitous that we came when we he did. Another chance to spend time rejoicing over important milestones is always good." (edited)

Billy turns beet red. “Oh come on! You’re putting the spotlight on me already? I just got here.” Billy starts fiddling with his wrist coms. “Ok yank me back. How’s this thing work!” He chuckles. “Shriven I’m stealing this tech and building one of my own, you know that right? Did we discuss it before?” Billy continues on seemingly instantly forgetting his embarrassment. Madeline squints a polite smile, communicating with her eyes and underlying emotion to as if to say. I hated that place when I left. We were fighting for our lives before Billy brought peace and part of me thought I would never want to see the damn ocean ever again but the coral brings back good memories and makes me miss it again. “Lady temptress is harsh at times but.... I think you know she never leaves you no matter how far you run.” She gazes off at some spot on the floor mid stroke and smirks.

Eisheru nods in agreement "That she is Madeline, should you and Billy ever find yourself out east, I would love to take you out on the open ocean of Espinoza. Should be a relaxing affair." "I too am eager to hear about how you managed this massive system, Shriven."

Shriven grins, "Well it all started when i installed the telepad on the Reunion, Ana's ship. It once was mine but.." Shriven shrugs, "Some battles aren't worth winning. Anyways, when i was installing the telepad and telling Ana about its range and drawbacks she asked me one simple question. Why not install a whole suite of them to override any drawbacks. I told her about space and power requirements but that got me thinking. Why not install a whole system of suites that would handle transportation on a planet. Like thousands of them. It took a few months of research to figure out how to compact them as you didnt want to be teleported to the array but instead site to site. But once we did we could throw the equivilant of a entire free merchant stuffed to the seams with theses things in satellites. That took care of the actual teleporting, well once we could produce and gather a few thousand of them. Then we needed a system, A system that was dynamic and smart enough to deal with the myriad different calculations that each jump alone would take let alone the thousands a minute that the system would require." Shriven reaches over to a table and grabs a glass of Etherfruit. Which is quickly replaced by a server. "So i turned to SARAH, my AI to combat the problem. When we first got to testing the system she ran it all. I mean all the calculations and everything. Then before release I expressed some concerns about her being tied up with the management of the system. THAT'S when she tells me that for the last 2 weeks of the 6 weeks of testing that a VI had been doing the calculations that she was doing before." Shriven Laughs, "You should have seen my face, I did after SARAH replayed the conversation back to me. It was priceless, I was dumbstruck. I guess that's what i get for defacing her wall." (edited)

Shriven takes a deep breath. "Well that's the story of how this system came about. Ad Astra has actually put these into production and i think they will soon become a more common site around the galaxy. Granted the first one is always the most expensive so you all will be getting a deal." (STUPID CHARACTER LIMITS..)

Billy frantically takes notes as does eyebot who occasionally plays back a mini hologram of Shriven describing the system. “Now that. Is brilliant. What’s the price tag on round two?”

Shriven shrugs, “250 million for just person and 500 million for people and cargo. It will just take a month to set up. Much cheaper than the 1.2 billion that it took to research and set up the first one.” (Faction holding home brew. Link in rules.)

“I think I may need to build out my base again to handle that but it’s getting to be large government complex scale not just a few office buildings...”

Eisheru's eyebrows raise when he hears the price on the development. "That is quite the sum. How have the people taken to it? Any detractors?"

“There are a few hesitant but they just don’t use it. They also don’t go into space but that doesn’t detract from the overall good. Mostly they are still in shock from the volume of change. The only thing we can do though is to build a better tomorrow today so we press on.”

"What's the manpower requirement? Surely you must employ a small army of technicians just to maintain the satellites..." Eisheru's eyes are lighting up over the talk of infrastructure improvements and the logistics behind them.

“Not actually that bad, 100 thousand for the personnel and 1 million for the deluxe. Personally I think it is one of the best things you can do with a population. To employ them and give the entire planet a leg up.” (Just quoting numbers from the current sheet. Numbers subject to change.)

"Acastus is still struggling in that regard but we are making strides. One point nine million people went back to work this month. Who would have thought people loved chocolate that much that the fractory is employing another million people?" (edited)

“See that’s one thing I am lacking is people right now, but we are making up for it somewhat with an artificial workforce but not by much. Robots can only do so much and only under the direct supervision of a true AI like Devnoc. One day, New Heaphestus will be a thriving metropolis. Nearing 700k, we are nearly there.”

"I am glad to hear your people are thriving. Perhaps you might find more wayward souls on the worlds to the north. One of our scouting teams found a planet that had been thought to be consumed by the shapers. The Agent found survivors in deep underground hideouts. Can you imagine? I'm sure there are yet more survivors that are in need a home."

“Our new president is... much less open to expansionist policies but I believe immigration is not out of the question. Wonderful idea.”

"Yes exactly, especially so on those worlds that are... Now devoid of biomaterial."

Billy clicks his tongue and flicks his eyes to meet Eisheru’s. “I just realized. We have to go back and bring life to all those planets.... I even think we might be able to do it!” He motions eyebot. “Note. New mission objective: seed the North. Step one: planet by planet scout & survey. Step two: build Seeding stations and staff deploying teams with positive advertisements of program. Three deploy all assets, scientific and if possible deploy advanced MES techniques to properly re-terraform and prime world for life. Set reminder daily.” Eyebot’s eye flickers and it’s gears whir happily in acknowledgement. He clears his throat and nods to the two of them. “S-sorry. I’m prone to... ambitious plans and distractions. Speaking of... you were joking when you said I was the guest of honor, right? All these professionals aren’t here just because of me. I just told you I was coming yesterday. What’s this all about?”

"We might need some help on the MES technique portion. The ritual to alter a planets biosphere is quite taxing on the psions that participate and we are not as numerous as prior to the Scream. It could take a decade to change even a dozen worlds. We will likely need to supplement with Mandate Era terraforming technology. If it still exists in a usable state."

Billy winks at Eisheru. “So there is a way. Clearly you wouldn’t need the incredible energy it took for Sumati two but I bet a much more minor form could help jumpstart tech that our scientists are more than capable of salvaging and recreating. Maybe not to Mandate Era capabilities but this is going to be a long road and I’m still young. - I am going to need to pay more visits to my gifted friends and learn and help the academies grow as well. I myself have experienced some sense of MES... something. I am a psychic by no means. But I can tell that you radiate like the sun with energy. Similar to Grupp and Regalus. Most people don’t have those little arcs coming off them except for the slightest ripples but you’re like a solar flare. Absolutely fascinating.” Billy seems to trace an arc of nothing in the air around you as if inspecting something that isn’t there. “There must be a way to harness some of that latent energy in non psychics as well. The work at the TECT on Crusea, while terrible and made vegetables out of the millions interred there proves there is at least something to the thought.”

“Sorry- is that rude?!” He suddenly retracts his hand from the air as if touching something hot.

"Putting that amount of energy into a device would be quite the undertaking. The Forge as it stands now is not yet capable of such imbuements. Our best bet is to find terraforming technology that can be made to function with some repairs." Eisheru focuses on Billy using his own MES senses and can see that his eyes glow faintly. "Being able to see the energy that flows around us is quite helpful. If you were not born sensitive to it, might I ask how you came upon your abilities? And maybe just a little but I do not mind. It was very distracting in the begging when I gained the ability to see Metadimensional Energy... Took quite a while to learn to not pay attention to it all the time"

Billy looks at Eisheru for a moment. “We found an artifact. A miniature version of the Still Lady’s MES Battery pyramid on Acastus and I had Devnoc, who was then a human take it to the lab for research. During that time we also took the derelict ship from Acastus, it was a makeshift asteroid ship, built to spread cultists across the Iron stars. But a shadow of the Still Lady was on board and she ran... through both myself and Desmond when we boarded the ship again when it got to Gudrun. The still lady escaped on an escape pod and we managed to shoot it down in the atmosphere. That’s when the headaches started. She turned my blood icy. Later, some time during the night a few weeks later Devnoc finally cracked the code and the miniature MES battery burst and sent a wave of energy across the entire planet and the headaches only got worse but I ignored them because Devnoc began a cycle of fully rotting and regenerating dying over and over and over. The process was increasing in its cycle as we made our way to Acastus to begin the rebellion in earnest. We delivered robotic troops to supplement the rebels and they helped find a cure for Devnoc who had to stay on planet for a few months as a cure was made for him. Meanwhile myself, and Desmond O’Shea led multiple missions taking out still lady bases and finally destroying her stormcloud size avatar and the real pyramid. It was around that time that I started noticing the... heatwaves. Especially as Dax and Regalus joined on some of the later missions fighting her demons. The very worst brain noodling didn’t come till after we defeated the still Lady and her cult on your planet. Myself, Dr. Thorn and Hailey Clements made a voyage north toward shaper territory. We reached Elkano and could feel the dread of the dying planet. A great foreboding of millions of souls. So we went down to a shaper temple. Inside was a seed of pulsating death magic left in ritual. So I tried to destroy it. I tried to shoot the runes with an AV

...laser and instead of destroying it, the energy was absorbed and the ritual was completed. My mind was blasted with the last memories of all of the animals on the planet. Killed by shapers. I saw the rituals and disturbing sadistic love that they felt for the planets death as their own mating dance. I regained consciousness with Hailey dragging me out back to the ship as the planet reacted to everything but... I wept and cried and it broke me. I started to really understand the streams of energy and what it meant but it fucked me. I would share the memories with you if it were possible but no one should have to shoulder that.”

Billy glances and nervously giggles. “So that’s some of my trauma.” He clears his throat.

Shriven places his hand on Billy’s shoulder. “You have come a long way since then and saved may who wouldn’t have been.” Shriven tries give a reassuring smile.

“Yeah, I mean I had to. All of us had a role to play.” Billy smiles and nods. Returning the gesture.

Eisheru listens in earnest as Billy describes some of the formative moments of his young life. While his face usually shows no emotion, every now and then an eyebrow is raised. Once the Lord Admiral finishes his tale he takes a moment to give it the respect it deserves before speaking, "For a man as young as you are, Billy, you have experienced things that no person should and have come out unbroken. We all bend as time and fate wants to do, but here you remain inspite of it." Eisheru reaches out and telepathically connects to Admiral Rigers, 'Not now, but if you want to share the memories that is something that can be done. You do not need to carry these burdens alone'

Shriven looks over and sees Ana across the room. He rushes over the bring her back to the group. Ana says, “You would think that they would make the teleporters safe for all life forms not just the born ones.” Shriven gives her a glare.

Billy looks back at Eisheru and nods. “Thank you.” “Ana, I don’t know how big the robot you’re talking about is, but I managed to zip eyebot here just fine.”

Eisheru looks to Ana then to Shriven and then back again. The faintest smile comes to his lips and his even tone says the next words, "I think there might be some difficulty in distinguishing between mother from child my dear lady. Congratulations to you both! An exciting time indeed."

Shriven blushes, “Yeah, uhhh thanks. I’m... we haven’t told the populace yet. I’m old fashioned and wanted to wait till the baby is born. But yeah.” Shrive looks around, “Are we ready to get this started.” Shriven is obviously very self conscious.

A good natured but very mechanical chuckle comes from the Merlon. "A better question is are you ready Shriven?"

Billy and Madeline shake Ana’s hand as she arrives. “It’s fantastic to see you. I think I’m ready if everyone else is.”

Billy looks around expectantly, not quite sure of what will happen next.

Shriven lets out a laugh then quickly stifles it at Eisheru’s jab. Then turns to group. If you all will follow me to the table we can get this started.” The lights flash 3 times and people begin to take their seats.

After getting everyone situated Shriven stands at the table, "Ladies and Gentlemen, It is my pleasure and honor to present the Key to Sumati to Admiral Governor Billy Rigers. He has faithfully and dutifully served the UNW and Sumati in turn. When I first met this young star he was raiding a Remnant stronghold with sub par weapons. Which was quickly rectified. " Shriven grins at Billy, "Now there is nothing sub par about anything that he shoots or commands. He has taken the science of shipbuilding to a true art form, and the art of combat into something unimagined in the days of either The Mandate or The Corporations. It is my honor to know such a shining star of the UNW and to have seen..." Sniff "his career unfold." Shriven wipes his eyes from the tears. “He was there for me before all of this took off. Helping me get Anamem off the ground in style. Billy, Ad Astra and Sumati owe you a great debt so I am going to do what I can to repay it. To that end you are now a shareholder of Ad Astra and will gain the benefits there in. Also as Governor I hereby decree that all efforts should be taken to expedite any and all activities associated with Admiral, Governor Rigers and his corporation, Riger Corp of Engineers. It has been an honor and a privilege to know you." Shriven grabs a glass, "Now a toast, To Admiral Billy, May his heart be ever at peace, as he has made the Sector a place of peace." Shriven drains the glass. All across the tables the younger generation of what you now know as Ad Astra employees begin to chant, “Speech, speech, speech.” Shriven turns to billy, “Sorry I didn’t expect them to do that. Eisheru sees that Billy is trying to put off giving a speech. Before he can protest too much, Eisheru closes his eyes and all of a sudden Billy is standing on his feet with one hand raised in the air to calm down the cheering crowd. Billy instantly knows what just happened and Eisheru gives him a wink. Through the telepathic connection he hears the Merlon's voice, 'Break a leg kid'

Billy stands frozen for a moment, turning a certain shade of crimson. What is happening? Break a leg kid. rings in his head as the faintest wisp of energy trails from the Tidecaller and Billy’s heart is filled with courage not his own. “Uhm” His voice cracks, clearly humbled by the words. He stands and brings Shriven in close for a hug. “N-no. I can speak.” Billy waves his hand laughing and regaining his composure a little bit as the crowd quiets. He takes a moment before speaking to take in the faces at the dinner. “I have to be honest, I had no intention on coming to a dinner, especially not one held in my honor. Shriven said himself that he didn’t think I’d come if I knew. It’s true I have come a long way a-and I guess you could say I’ve done great things and I thank you all, truly. It is an honor and I’m completely stunned by your generosity. I was scared shitless half the time. I did crazy, absolutely reckless things that could have easily gotten myself killed or worse resulted in the destruction of humanity itself had I failed. But I did not. I succeeded because I always had support. Governor Shriven, Governor Seung, President Kincaid, Hailey Clements literally carried me. Others gave support to a determined kid and the dice just happened to fall the right way. There are ridiculously talented people that have been by my side the entire time that never get the recognition they deserve. A young man, Devnoc joined my circle on my first day with the task force and he may be one of the few people that knows death more personally that me. Jules, Kady, Stearn and countless others have come through fire by my side... I’m not any different than many of you here tonight. I have seen things I hope you never witness and I responded just as any of you would. Angry. Emotional. As such, I would like to further dedicate my life to the betterment of all people. I built RCOE to rebuild and finally we can all begin to concentrate on thriving... (continued)

As such, I humbly accept the honor Shriven and I give you and everyone here tonight my word that I will continue to work with everyone I can so we can begin anew in this new world. I expect all of you to do your part too. If you see a poor kid with potential, give them more support than is rational. Shriven, if you don’t mind, I would like to use some of this money and build colleges across the UNW and beyond. Even today I am given incredible amounts of support and I only hope I can pay a fraction of that forward.” Billy raises his glass and glances back to Eisheru, nodding thankful.

As billy finishes his speech cheers and applause echo across the station. Only when the plates are teleported away and the first course appears before each person does the assembly begin to calm. They sit down to an old earth delicacy, Escargot with a goblet of a delicate white beverage that vaguely smells of etherfruit. Shriven turns to billy, “Good job, you really have come a long way. I’m proud to know you billy. I really mean that.”

“Shriven...” Billy says with a mouthful of snail before swallowing. “You gave me a million credits in my first month with the task force. I couldn’t have done it without you. I should be holding an event in your honor.... there’s just so much more work to do... especially with the Exhalted Path running around. I don’t know what to make of them.”

Shriven grimaces, “I don’t know either but I do know that if they come to Sumati I have the fleet to fight them and unless they give me good cause I will respond with overwhelming force. To any threat of a fleet over Sumati. From all the reports that I have gotten it seems like they wouldn’t have a reason to come to Sumati.” Shriven realizes he’s is rambling. “What’s your concern?”

“That’s the thing, right now they seem to be completely ignoring us, save for receiving the information that the Alloy Host was there. I’ve been moving assets to take them out and while I was there they orbitally bombarded the Alloy Host and began a ground assault. They are consolidating resources and sooner than later they will have forced that may even threaten you. If their attitude mirrors those of the Alloy Host or the Technocracy the vein remains that biological life is a mere hurdle. Less than.”

"The reports coming in about the Path are worrisome. It's hard to know their motivations when their needs for survival are so alien to our own. Some attempts should be made to meet with them to at least understand what their goals are."

“But what do I do. I have troops in place. Theta and I destroyed their heaviest asset and now there is a three way war on Asta. And not to be selfish but now they will certainly be taking the most dangerous and intriguing assets that we could have used.”

"When you only have hammers in your tool box, every problem begins to look like a nail. Our first response to the Path should not be one of hostility or antagonism. We should seek to learn from them so they may learn from us and possibly find a way to coexist."

The night begins to blur, if it is the cognac marinated pork shank or the last bottle of pappy van winkle from earth one will never be able to tell. Laughter and stories fly through the night as course after course flow past the table. To much food is brought and seemingly teleported away. After the desert many many people come up and introduce themselves only to be forgotten. Many more express gratitude for Admiral's work and sacrifices. After a seemingly endless line the room is emptied. Each group choosing to teleport away after they are able to talk with the head table. Shriven turns to Billy after the last group teleports away. "Well, how bad was the dinner, you cant be honest i know that it wwas tooooo much but you my boyo deserve mora that what i cold do." Shriven says in his intoxicated state.

Eisheru talks most of the night with the table guests. He shares stories of Terezinho as well as talking about the finer points of government bureaucracies and how to improve their efficiency. As the evening draws down to an end he excuses himself from a group of young military officers and approaches Shriven. "Governor, I must thank you once again for inviting me to this lovely gathering. After exchanging pleasantries, Eisheru pulls up his compad and selects his room that was given to him. Amazingly it was already set up as a favorite place along with the Castle that Shriven wanted explored. He clicks the confirmation button and disappears from the dining room only to reappear an instant later in his room.

Billy eventually releases the fog of responsibilities ever hanging over his head and gives in to the revelries. It’s quite a different experience for him as countless Sumati and Ad Astra notables introduce themselves and shake hands and bump elbows. Some whisper of cool tech ideas, others give him oddly timed pitches hoping for a sponsorship no doubt but for the most part the people seem excited just to be there. Billy devours and snacks through the evening and tucks some away for later in pockets wrapped in cloth napkins. He keeps his composure for the most part but by the end he begins to match Shriven’s slur and his quarters call to him. “Shriven.” He says awkwardly bumping into a conversation with some Ad Astra employee trying to talk about work. “The food was delicious. Escargot, slimy but char, so good. The etherfruit drink,” he lifts a carafe from a nearby table, “is coming with usss and you are an amazing man. After everything you’ve done for me, I love ya bud, bring it in.” Billy steps in front of the annoyed employee and gives Shriven a big hug. “I leanred alot. I drank a lot and I think it’s time to take my wife to bed. I’d invite you to give me advice for that to but for once I think I’m all set. I don’t want to make Ana mad anyway. Yep! Time to go!” Billy kisses Shriven on the cheek and slap pats it twice and turns. “ADMIRAL BECKWATER-RIGERS, REPORT TO THE BRIDGE!” Madeline ducks the swinging carafe, already by his side, laughing and apologizing for him whispering.

Venser starts the evening held up in a corner, anxious to talk with anyone but Blossom, and constantly eyeing the floor for his friends. He is visibly uncomfortable in a suit despite the fact it's been tailor made for him. As people begin to take there seats he follows suit, flanked by Rey and Blossom in the seating arrangement. Not too far away from the top dogs of Shriven, Billy and Eisheru. But far enough to leave them to their politics for the night. He is deeply moved by Billy's speech, at how someone so young like himself can bounce back from such things. Gaining a new found respect for Mr. Rigers at seeing his humanity outside the confines of the council. He enjoys his meal deeply. Although less in actual taste and more in the excitement of trying so many varied delicacies, as apposed to the millionth ration paste he's eaten in the void. Some dishes he is taken aback by or spits out but still enjoys them all on an experimental level. Himself a young man (20 to be exact), he hasn't really had the chance to partake in drinking and does so gingerly throughout the evening. Occasionally adopting the sour face of a child whose just stuck his tongue in wine for the first time. As the evening wears on he has a huge amount of fun with Rey and Blossom and works up the courage to branch out to others around them. Eventually gets to discussing the merits of different ships and dogfighting with Shriven. As well as the Psionic Forge project on Tsatsos with Billy, although it's gets silly in places as they all have a bit of buzz going, he starts talking about someone named Ande? It's all a bit blurred.

Finally he decides to retire and says his goodbyes. "Shriv! Great job that was- almost definitely the nicest meal I've ever had. I didn't know people in the UNW had this kinda money you know? Anyway, I am gonna think long and hard about my request but we will have that floor cleared out in no time." He burps into his fist. "As soon as I can shoot straight..." He gives a wonky informal salute. "Hey! Blossom! Rey! Is Eish still around? We should all try that swordfish place, I swear just for the smell!" His voice trails off as he walks away.

It will allow us to coordinate with a degree of efficiency that is unparalleled. I know the sharing of thoughts can be a bit unnerving, but I think being as prepared as possible is a necessity."

Eisheru nods and closes his eyes. A small tendril of telepathic energy begins to extend out and connect to Venser and Rey. At first the connection is only between them and Eisheru, but after a brief moment there is another wisp of energy that extends from each of them to connect with the other. Both Rey and Venser can feel an additional presence within their minds. As the unity is solidified, Eisheru opens his eys and his words ring in their heads even though his mouth does not open 'It is done. Think of your thoughts as if to be two different balls. One ball you pass to the unity. And the other remains with yourself. When you want to share a thought, just imagine "passing" the thought to the unity and we will all know it instantaneously. As you get the hang of the concept, it will be less "work" to send a thought and will become more instinctual.' (edited)

(No, UoT is different than CoM. You would be able to share your sensory impressions with the group but we all wouldnt benefit from Spacial Awareness directly. Currently at 9/9 effort as telepathic contact is free and TK Armory is now free for me too.) Eisheru nods in appreciation and gestures to board the stealth helicopter. 'Let's get this underway. Eisheru searches through the Academy file on the castle on the flight over. 'Seems like not much is known about this castle. The Headmaster met a trio of mages and there is a mysterious pool. We should meet with those mages and see what they know of the castle.' (edited)

Eisheru sends a communication to the Castle letting them know of their impending arrival. He requests to speak to the three mages that have been living there since Headmaster Fate gained their allegiance.

They announce they will be ready and to forgive the shabby appearance of the grounds. Their bound drudges have been experiencing difficulty completing tasks of late

Rey thinks to the group. I wonder why they are having issues. Well we will find out soon enough.

Eisheru nods in agreement with Rey, 'That we will. If you have any last minute preparations, I recommend you do them.' Eisheru's pulls the bone harpoon off of his hip, with a thought the small one-handed blade grows into its full length. The serpent scale pauldron extends and grows to become a full scale mail and shoulder armor. A device is clasped to his left forearm that hums with power. Eisheru checks that the Force Pavis turns on before dismissing the shield until he needs to defend himself.

Venser eyes begin to glow as he brings about his techniques (TK armory and spatial awareness as previously said) and the revolver at his side begins to emanate golden light in synergy. He adjusts the vambrace on his arm taking one last look at the ornate imagery pressed into it's surface "Finally a chance to expand this relief." He holds up his forearm to Rey. (edited)

Rey packs away his sniper rifle, Grow Gun and a day of rations in his jacket. Then stuffs his pockets with more rations. Looking around he shrugs Dont want to be without food.

The helicopter roars across the ocean, cupping air furiously between its blades as it makes its way toward the island. Through a dense jungle, a hill rises with a keep on top. Some of it is old. Some of it is newer and more restorative construction. A small pad on the ceiling begins flashing , welcoming. You in. Several hooded and cowled workers along with three figures all emerge from the level below the roof to greet the craft

As the helicopter touches down and the trio get out, Eisheru waves to the robed figures. "Greetings, my name is Eisheru. And this is Rey and Venser. How is everyone here holding up?"

The mages bow, and dismiss their shadowy servants back to the lower reaches of the keep. "The grounds are as you see them. It stands, and we serve"

"Headmaster Fate said you might be coming"

Rey hops out of the helicopter, “Greeting, in your previous communication you suggested that the drudged have been experiencing difficulties in the castle. Can you elaborate?” I want to ask what they know before we say that we think there is a second floor Rey sends to the unity.

"Something on the grounds is interfering with their binding, yes. We have searched the castle and grounds in their entirety, and have been unable to pinpoint the source"

'Agreed, Rey' he sends the thought to the unity "Do you have any theories as to what it is that is capable of interfering with their binding? What kind of phenomena are we potentially dealing with?" (edited)

'It can't hurt, from Academy records these mages are bound to the Headmaster. See if they know how to access to lower levels.' Eisheru replies. He nods in response to the mage he puts on a look like he is thinking about something. (edited)

Rey turns to the Mages, "We have received a report from the Governor that there may be a second layer under the castle. Would you have any idea how to get down there?"

"Ah , there is one way, there is a well in the courtyard, jammed up with rock. Once its removed, you may be able to rope down, and get into the second underlevel that way"

"Well as a bunch of telekines that shouldn't be a problem." (edited)

"Then we best get back to work. We do not want whatever is down there to affect your work any longer than it already has. If you have anything that might help us in our efforts we will not turn it away. Otherwise we recommend keeping an eye on the well while we are down there." If the mages have nothing left to say on the matter, Eisheru begins heading towards the well in the courtyard of the castle. He takes a look to see what kind of effort is going to be required to remove the rocks in the well. (edited)

I can move any of the rocks upto 400 kilos without having to worry. So let’s do this.

'Have at it, Rey. You seem to be the most proficient Telekineticist out of all of us.' Eisheru stands back and readies his weapon just in case something comes flying out of the well

Rey looks down the well and lower down a glow stick with TK so he can see the bottom and begins to lift the rocks out making sure not to let the glowstick get smashed in the process

Venser beside Eisheru similarly spins out his now golden revolver holding it at his side eagerly.

The rocks slowly move out of the well until they form a pile about as tall as you are outside of it. Vines and sticks also come up with it Two drudges emerge with ropes and harnesses, bowing as much as their stunted and strangely rigid physiology allows them to before retreating back inside the academy proper

Eisheru climbs into the harness and secures one end of the rope around the well. After, he pulls down the low-light goggles and looks down into the well before securing himself to the line and climbing over the ledge. (edited)

The water is ankle deep, and there is a fissure in the wall where a passageway once existed. The recent rockfall has blocked it off, but pale light is coming through, indicating something on the other side. It is silent, except for the lapping of the disturbed water

'How does it look down there, Rey?' As soon as Rey gives the all clear, Eisheru starts down the rope to the bottom of the well.

Eisheru climbs down and looks at the collapsed rock wall. 'Looks like some light is coming through. I can cover you while you move the rocks again.' Eisheru turns on his force pavis and his harpoon blade extends into a longer one handed weapon.

The rocks move to the sides of the cavern revealing a large chamber with a domed roof. Several passageways run off of it with smoother floors , either made by lots of shuffling feet, or by the passage of running water over long years. The air is stagnant and dust hangs like a thick curtain

Venser teleports down next to Eisheru, slightly caught off guard by how deep the water is. "Nice work guys, lead the way."

The right passage is overgrown with mushrooms and other fungi that thrive in these dark and damp environments, but there doesn't seem to be any ill effects stepping on them. Running water pools around the bottom of your boots, and it sounds like something is shifting in the darkness as the passage runs north, about 50m away

'Sounds like something is up ahead. Proceed carefully.' Eisheru pushes forward carefully around the corner to try and get a better look at what could be making the noise

As Rey looks around the corner, there are shaded figures that seem to be mining, hauling rocks, and otherwise doing what normal individuals do, though the substance they're mining is clearly null(whatever the name is, i never spell it right. Damn you reg)

It is not registering to your psychic senses, as it shouldnt, and the strange humanoids here are likewise having trouble handling it

Rey turns to Eisheru, "Tidecaller Primus, I think that we should talk but we shouldn't risk you going missing on a UNW world. From what i have understood of the Galatean council that would certainly cause an issue so let me go and talk to them."

Rey and Venser can sense Eisheru's mind working to come up with some sort of rebuttal but none is forth coming. He nods once, 'You are not wrong, Rey. We will be right behind you'

Venser agrees in his mind and steps up with Rey.

The drudges keep mining, seeming only to care about their labors as they're approached

They do not bother with any of you as you move past them, and will move out of the way if your route intersects theirs. The teams are dividing the mined ore, some taking it back the way you came, and others wheeling their wooden carts back down the passageway

The work seems to be centered around the very end of the cavern and even from here you can sense a large amount of the anti psionic material dug and piled up (edited)

At the end of the tunnel, blending in as one of the drudges, there is a very tall figure, clearly not native or human. It is skeletally thin, with long limbs, torn clothing, and a pale flesh that covers black bone visible through its pallid skin. Its back is to you, unnoticing, and it continues chanting or muttering under its breath. It has the form of a Wasimian

Rey sends back an image of what he sees. Then proceeds onward.

Eisheru waits just around the corner out of sight of the big pile of nulmetanium and the Wasimian looking creature. "Just give the word, Rey and we are charging in."

One of the drudges manages to sneak a blow past Eisheru's shield. In response he takes a step back, plants his foot and strikes with the one-handed harpoon blade. "Rey, we can handle these if you can go for the big guy in the back." The two of them can feel nothing but a dedication to purpose coming from Eisheru. All of his focus is on ensuring none of the drudges can get by to Venser. (14/10, Venser getting the bonus turn)

Two drudges fall bringing the pack to 5, as the tracking nanites also begin patching into the creature. The drudges Lay in with tools to keep you back as the spell prepares again and the cavern begins to shake with whatever power is being gathered

Eisheru thanks Rey for preventing the magical energy from dispersing, "Do not panic, our connection will reestablish itself in a few seconds." Eisheru reaches out to the Wasimian to establish basic telepathic contact, doing so causes the Unity to fade from their minds. He then forces a surge of energy across the connection hoping to overwhelm the spell slinger. (Telepathic Contact L0 with Wasimian *as an instant action -1 effort, Telepathic Assault -1 effort, Surge momentum to give him a -4 on the save for -1 effort. 5/9 Effort available. Eisheru is now sweating from the brief burst of effort, he takes a few deep breaths slow his heart rate down. He places a hand on the small cut from one of the drudges that managed to slip past his guard and warm healing energy pours forth (healing to max, for 2 strain.) Once the blow trickles then stops, he reaches out telepathically to Rey and Venser, once again establishing the unity of their shared minds. "We should probably bind and gag the mage. I wonder why he was pretending to be a Wasimian..."

“No idea, I don’t get why his MES was so hard to stop.”

Outloud Eisheru speaks this time, "Rey or Venser if one of you have some rope, we need to bind him as he will only be unconscious for a little while... Forty five more minutes, give or take. While one of you do that, I am going to probe his mind. Our Unity will be on hold while I do this." Eisheru turns towards the former Wasimian, now human, and walks over so he is standing near him and kneels down. He closes his eyes and begins to scour the rectifier's mind for his purpose in the cave (Telepathic Contact Level 4, Everything he knows on the reasons for being down in the cave. 1. He is from Sumati 2. He is not going anywhere 3. He got into the cavern system by knowing where it is, and using another concealed tunnel in the western system of this area

4. He does not know the mages personally but knows of them and their reputation. More importantly he knows about the pool that used to be here once. 5. He is in the cave because he knew about the rich vein of this resouces here from his own studies

6. He is planning to ensure the pool of boons does not return, and is using the material to destroy the magical integrity of the pool. He has succeeded in his task for now. He wants to ensure it stays gone. 7. He is working alone, the fewer people who know of its power the better 8. There were no other dangers before you all came in here and messed everything up

(Ok last two follow up questions then we can continue on, Why does he want to destroy the Pool of Boons? Does he know how to reverse the damage done to the Pool of Boons?)

Eisheru withdraws from the mage's mind and blinks his eyes a couple times as he refocuses. In an instant the Unity is reestablished between the three of them, "It appears this mage wanted to destroy the Pool of Boons that is housed in the castle above and has had some success. As far as I can tell he has no accomplices and there is another entrance to this cavern system to the west. We should walk the rest of the cave and check out this other entrance. Then we can meet with the mages and Governor Shriven. I imagine he will remain unconscious for another 30 minutes so let's hurry."

"Are the drudges going to get back up?"

"I don't think he can summon them again while he is gagged and bound. But we should hurry none the less." Eisheru quickly searches the mage for any belongings.

The mage doesn’t have anything on him aside from the clothes on his back and a half eaten survival ration

"Nothing on him. Come let's check the other part of this cave." Eisheru gets up and starts leading the others towards the other part of the cave

”We should track him back to his base and see what we can find there. Unless you can pull where he is based out of him. Any kind of research that would lead to knowledge of the well is... concerning.” Rey sends to the group.

"This was his base of operations, let's check the other part of this cave system." Eisheru walks on, careful not to touch any of the walls with the nulmetanium

The drudges gradually set their tools down and sit, or lay, and begin to slowly turn to dust as well, their connection with their master knocked out. Slowly, the sounds of mining in the tunnel die out, and there is nothing but the whisper of the winds through the confined space.

You find a simple bed, some rough furniture , and some other signs of primary habitation in the western reach of the tunnel, reinforcing that this individual acted alone, and was primarily based here. Whatever home he had come from is irrelevant now.

Eisheru searches the furniture for any sort of writings or books that the mage may have had or anything else of interest besides bedding.

There are some notes and diagrams left around the space, but they don't reveal any more information than what was already pulled from his mind

"I am sure the mages will want to see the intruder's notes. Anything else you guys can think to do before we take our leave from this dank cave?" (edited)

"That would seem to make the most sense. I am sure he will also want to know of the nulmetanium mine that is on his planet as well. Let's go collect our prisoner and then head back to the surface." Ensuring there is nothing of interest left behind, Eisheru then heads back to the mage so the four of them can go back to the surface

There is no trouble getting back to the surface using the secondary way in, as its a winding path through a stream cave. You emerge close to the beach, near the spot agent Fermia was killed more than a year ago in her ill advised infiltration attempt. One of the tree trunks still has a few bullet holes in it.

Eisheru pulls out his compad and drafts a message to the mages of the castle as well as Headmaster Fate. He details the encounter briefly and lets them know that the Pool of Boons was disrupted by the nulmetanium underneath the castle. He informs them that the mage responsible for this sabotage was pretending to be a Wasimian and that he is being taken to Governor Shriven for holding. "Let's get back to the helicopter so we can meet with Shriven. Really just want to be anywhere except standing in a nulmetanium mine... I can already feel my headache going away" (edited)

Venser examines the tree chunk while listening to the others, having no context for it. "Agreed, I can still taste it..." He says looking slightly disgusted.

"Thankfully, Governor Shriven has been a friend to the Academy. I am certain he will take the necessary precautions to ensure this mine and its contents are guarded closely. Well done in there, both of you." Eventually they reach the castle and the helicopter is still there waiting for them. The flight will be short, but the rest is welcome. "So what are your plans after this matter is concluded?"

Venser looks at the floor and then at Rey, not saying anything.

“I think we are going to go find something a friend of ours left for us.”

"If-- you still want to."

Rey turns to Venser, “Of Course! I wouldn’t have it any other way. We took a bit of a detour but I wouldn’t leave you, friends don’t do that to each other.”

Eisheru watches the exchange and since his travelling companions do not elaborate on their next mission he doesn't push. He nods once "Well I am glad you two will be traveling together. I will be heading towards Heras as there is apparently another Still Lady pyramid there. Should either of you need my assistance in the future, do not hesitate to find me on Acastus." "Oh... And Rey, We should talk in the near future about Brizeno. I have some ideas about rescuing your home."

Rey snaps his head around, “I... I was planning on asking for a boom from the governor to help set up and execute a campaign to free Brizeno. Should I ask for something else?”

Eisheru gives a small chuckle, which sounds strange given it's flat tone. "Governor Shriven could likely provide you with far more resources than I could. If that is your goal, he would certainly give you the best stepping stone towards it."

Venser smiles at Rey and Eish. "Oh yeh, we're meant to pick some sort of favour. I completely spaced."

"Indeed. What are you going to ask of the governor, Venser?"

"Ah God... I haven't even thought about it. What are you doing? Any ideas?"

"Greystar and Aiya Tech both need more trade partners as we are relatively young in comparison to other polities and companies. Having a favorable trade terms on a world such as Sumati would be a huge boon."

"Always for the polity huh? I mean, I get it. Completely. And I admire your dedication. But I'm curious, isn't there something you want? Just for you?" (edited)

The transport is outside the main entrance, the teleport system was acting up and now due to the nulmetanium the reason for the errors make sense. You are able to grab the prisoner and bring him along. Once you are able to get a few hundred miles out from the island a message appears on your compad. Requesting a teleport to an actual board room with shriven and a few bodyguards standing around.

"Oh would you look at that... Our ride has arrived while we are on our ride... Amazing what technology can accomplish." He says with a slight smile "Rey be ready to nullify our guest of honor in case he tries anything... untoward." Eisheru nods to the others and grabs hold of the mage before hitting accept on the compad

Rey nods and prepares to go into the void once teleported.

The moment everyone hits accept you feel your body teleported to the board room where the body guards all rush to grab the still unconscious prisoner. "We will take him for questioning boss." One of the beefier men say as they exit the room. Shriven turns to the three intrepid adventurers. "So i hear you found a Nulmetanium mine. My trust in you was well placed. As promised as a favor and i will do what i can to see it honored in full. What are your requests?"

"Yes. I know you are a friend of the Academy and a shrewed and intelligent man, but I still feel compelled to say this. I recommend securing the mine and its contents as quickly as possible. The last thing this sector needs are stolen stockpiles of nulmetanium floating around the black market." Eisheru bows his head in respect to Governor Shriven. "The Confederation and Aiya Technologies are looking to expand their business partners across the sector. Having some administrative barriers to trade being removed or reduced would be most gracious of you, Shriven. If I would be allowed to set up a satellite office for Aiya Tech here on Sumati, we can continue to build upon our new relationship." (edited)

"As you have heard my home system of Brizeno has been conquered by the Etxaurren Empire. So i am going to ask for help with an expedition to free my system from their tyranny. I know this is a large request but it is the only thing that i can ask in such a position from such a person as yourself." Rey's hands shake in anticipation of disappointment. Shriven sees the passion in Rey, "I will hire a group that i have worked with often, The House of Draconis, to aid you. I will fund the expedition however you will need to lead the fighting yourself if i can get them to sign on for the contract. It will not be this month though. They are more than occupied with an ongoing issue if my current sources are correct. Will that suffice?" Rey nods, "It is more than i had hoped for, Thank you."

"What about you Vesner, Friend of Ascended Intelligences. " Shriven grins again at such a title.

Venser likewise grins. "Actually you're on the right track. But my request is sort of nebulous and will likely require a more lengthy conversation."

"Certainly, we can accommodate that. We can either take this discussion to another room or if you have things to do you can reach out to SARAH via the telecommunication network and she will be able to coordinate any requests to the appropriate people."

"I figured we might walk and talk? But whatever works, I know you're a busy man."

“I just have time in the ‘Boardroom’ scheduled.” Shriven uses air quotes when he said boardroom. “What do you have in mind?”

Venser chuckles at 'Boardroom'. "I wanted to talk to you about AI. What you know, how a core might be created and what resources you could give me to either learn about or build such a device. I've had a lot of encounters with them as you say. I want to know what makes them tick."

“I know that the RCOE did it once, I can do little else to help you in that unless you run into a financial issue with locating the pieces needed or information. I can help with that. As far as technical knowledge though, SARAH would be the closest I could get to that and she can at best discuss Virtual intelligence.” Shriven shakes his head, “If that is your request I can do little but finance it. I’m sorry I can’t be of more aid.”

"Quite alright. Regardless thank you for letting me pick your brain. While I certainly apprieciate the offer, the field of AI is immensly expensive. I wouldn't feel right having you bankroll my pipe dream."

"I am sorry for my delusions of grandeur." He jokes, semi-seriously. "Well I am immensly prideful at the work you and Ad Astra does. If you're offering me finance I'd happily take stock in your company, if that isn't too direct?" (edited)

You both have a bright future ahead and I cannot wait to see the great things you will accomplish." Both Rey and Venser can feel a pervasive sense of calm and serenity. Eisheru looks down at his compad and selects a destination right next to the Charybdis. In an instant he is gone

Shriven disappears. Rey looks around seeing that Venser and him are the only ones left in the room. “Well are we ready to go treasure hunting now?”
